If a person pleads guilty to or is convicted of a specific traffic violation while distracted, they will pay an enhanced court fine of $100 or less, or they can take a distracted driver course that has been created by the Ohio Department of Public Safety. The course can be found on the Driver Training Website. From the homepage, a person should click on “Courses/Programs”. The next page will contain a “Distracted Driver” option, for which the customer should click on “Enter Course”. The course should take about an hour to two hours to complete.  The defendant will be responsible for ensuring the Distracted Driver Course Certificate is presented to the Clerk of Courts office.  Defendants will have 14 days after date of arraignment for them to return with their certificate and pay only the waiver for the initial violation.
