REPORTING INSTRUCTIONS

Petit Jurors:  Please match your Report Date with the Code Number Designation (either Code 1 or Code 2) against your 2nd Notification letter you received in the mail with the assigned report date.  

Grand Jurors:  Your reporting date and time are on schedule.    Attendance is mandatory.  **Please note Grand Jurors are not assigned a Code Number.**

**Jury Trials scheduled for the week of May 16, 2022 have been vacated due to settlement or continued to a later date.

Report Date:  WEDNESDAY, May 18, 2022 - Code  2 Jurors - DO NOT REPORT.  The Jury Trial has been cancelled.  Please note that you do remain on call through the month of May 2022.  If your services are needed, you will receive a new summons with a new report date through the US Mail.  However, if you have questions, please call the main jury line at (937) 440-5992.  


Report Date:  Tuesday, May 24, 2022 - Jurors:   If you've received a Summons indicating an appearance date for Tuesday, May 24th and you're assigned CODE NUMBER 1 or 2 - Please follow the instructions listed in your Summons.  Updates will be posted to the website and Jury Answering Line within 48 hours of your scheduled appearance and leading up to your report time.  

 

DRESS CODE:  Please wear comfortable clothing that also reflects the seriousness of your responsibility.  Business-casual attire is encouraged.  Shorts, mini-skirts, tank tops, hats and clothing with tears/ holes are considered to be inappropriate attire for the courtroom.  The temperatures from room-to-room may vary, so you may want to bring a sweater or jacket with you.      

LOCATION AND OFFICE HOURS:  The Common Pleas Court - General Division is located on the 3rd floor of the Safety Building, 201 W. Main Street next to the Miami County Court House.  The Safety Building opens at 7:30 a.m.  You must pass through a security check-point upon entry into the building.  Any object considered to be a weapon or that is deemed unacceptable by law enforcement, will be confiscated and/or dealt with appropriately.  The Court opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Jury Trials are not held on Saturday, Sunday or legal holidays.  Prompt arrivals will ensure the court's ability to begin court proceedings in a timely manner.  Jury selection typically lasts 3-4 hours, sometimes longer so please plan to spend the entire day with us.  Upon impaneling a jury, the Court may commence the Jury Trial soon thereafter, or you may be required to report the next day.  The Court will provide that instruction upon the jury being impaneled.   Jury Trials typically lasts 1 - 3 days (sometimes longer).  The Judge will advise you during jury instructions as to the estimated length of the jury trial.  

There may be period of waiting before jurors are escorted into the courtroom.  You may bring a book, cell phone, laptop computer or another quiet activity to pass the time.  While you are seated in the courtroom, cellular phones and laptops must be turned off.  You may bring your own drink as long as its secured in a container with a lid.   Typically, the Court recesses for lunch and you free to dine on your own, unless otherwise instructed by the Court.   

JUROR'S CODE OF CONDUCT:   As a juror, you must not discuss the case amongst yourselves or with anyone else until you begin deliberations.  This rule applies while you are at court, during breaks, and even at home.  You must not discuss the case with friends, relatives or trial participants.  

PARKING:  The Court does not provide parking.  It is suggested you park in an area that is unrestricted on time.  Do not park in any lots that are marked "Restricted or Reserved" surrounding the Safety Building and Court House.  The residential areas of Franklin Street and Water Street are highly recommended as they provide the closest parking to the Safety Building.   For a view of downtown parking, you may visit Troy's website at www.troyohio.gov.


JURY ANSWERING LINE:  The Jury Answering Line operates 24/7 and provides updated messages to jurors who are scheduled to report. You will know when to report upon receiving a secondary notification through the US Mail.  The number to the Jury Answering Line is (937) 440-5993.  Once you have been assigned a report date, attendance is mandatory.  Only the Judge can excuse you from participating in jury duty upon your notification to the Court during the proceedings as to conflicts of interest, or scheduling.  Failure to appear may result in a contempt hearing scheduled with the Judge.
