Miami County Animal Shelter-Animal Control Officer-Full Time                                                                                                                 Under direction, conducts door-to-door residential checks for valid dog licenses; observes, seizes, and impounds animals (e.g., lifts, loads, transports, and unloads animals); receives calls and complaints regarding stray, hostile, injured, or sick animals, communicates with the general public and with co-workers. Interprets and implements animal control laws; observes violations and issues warnings and citations; presents testimony in court; investigates claims regarding damage to livestock and assists claimants in completing necessary forms. Administers injections to animals, administers methods of euthanasia upon passing state certification class for injection euthanasia by following approved methods and utilizing approved equipment. Performs custodial tasks involving physical labor and use of equipment (e.g., scraper, hot water hose, squeegee, broom, disinfectant chemicals, etc.); lifts and moves feed bags, litter bags, animals, other supplies, and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; assists other employees in lifting heavier weights; provides food and water to animals in the Shelter. Prepares accurate and concise reports; issues dog licenses; files and retrieves records; collects fees; answers questions from general public. Answer phone, perform other various clerical tasks. Miami County Sanitary Engineering-Transfer Station Operator II-Full Time                                                                                                 Under direction, operates loader and other Recycling and Transfer Station equipment to transfer refuse to semi-tractor-trailer for transport to disposal site. Operates semi-tractor and other equipment to transfer solid waste to and from tipping floor or loading area. Inspects, analyzes, and performs electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and welding maintenance and repair on all Transfer Station equipment and machinery; develops and monitors preventive maintenance schedules.  Supervises Transfer Station Operators in absence of the supervisor. Miami County Sheriff's Office-Corrections Officer-Full Time
Corrections officers are responsible for overseeing individuals who have been arrested and are awaiting trial or who have been sentenced to serve time in jail. In Miami County the Sheriff’s Office operates two jail facilities and staff both with corrections officers. The first is a 43 bed facility located in downtown Troy and is considered maximum security, holding our highest risk inmates. The second jail is located in CR 25a north of Troy and is a 240 bed facility holding less serious male offenders and females. Corrections Officers rotate between both locations.
