The Supreme Sacrifice
When a woman or man decides to become a law enforcement officer, and make it their career, they will be required to make a lot of sacrifices.
The sacrifices officers are required to make start as soon as they are sworn in at their department and in some cases, before they are sworn in. Officers are required to attend and successfully complete basic training with the standards being set by the State of Ohio. This will just be the start of the training and education they will be required to attend during their career.
Officers will be required to work different shifts which causes a lot of sacrifices to be made concerning their family life. They will work holidays, days off, and many times they will work more hours than a normal working day. Officers are required to work in all kinds of weather conditions.
Officers are required to know the law and how to apply the law to properly enforce the law. Officers will be required to appear in court to testify on cases they are involved in.
Officers are required to make quick decisions and make sure those decisions are the correct ones because those decisions may be reviewed by their superior officers, lawyers, and possibly judges. Even though the officers may have to make some of their decisions in seconds, superior officers, lawyers, and judges are not held by the same guidelines.
There are many more sacrifices officers will make during their career, but they hope they will never have to make THE SUPREME SACRIFICE.
When an officer makes THE SUPREME SACRIFICE, the officer gave their life while protecting the community the officer so proudly served.
The following Officers have made "THE SUPREME SACRIFICE" in Miami County:
